Podcast 1 - Supplmental - EVE-Online

Here's the official reference to EvE-Online's DirectX11 tesselation demo by nVidia. Tesselation is the fine art of breaking polygons into smaller polygons by subdividing them. Its a common technique to create high resolution models, but tesselation at this level of resolution is something else again. Once the exclusive domain of 3D renderers such as Pixar's RenderMan for the movies, it now seems your average (reasonably) high end PC graphics card can do the same in real time.

The other potentially interesting new kink in network gaming is the prospect of playing two different games on two different gaming platforms (PC & Playstation3) but inside one shared networked environment. In EvE-Online's 2012 Fanfest in Iceland, there was a lot of interest in Dust 514, a free-to-pay First Person Shooter on the Playstation3 that plugs directly into EVE. EVE players romp in outer space in their spaceships, while PS3 players run around on the planets below. Here's the Dust 514 preview: the orbital bombardment scene between the two games takes place about 21 minutes in.

Welcome to the future, kids!
